Does it make sense to study history of art if you have never actually produced art?

While I have many interests in the humanitarian field and I did pretty well in my art cles at school, I have never aspired to being a professional in any kind of art and subsequently I haven't undergone any adequate training. However, I am somewhat attracted to the history of culture and art. Is it silly to think that I can understand art if I am not able to create one? How would, say, a university look upon my request to be admitted to study history of art?
